Ford sold more electric vehicles than ever before in September, up by 65%, the automaker said in its third-quarter earnings report.

Record Mach-E sales contributed to the result at 5,872 units, a year-over-year gain of 153%. The company reported the E-Transit also achieved record quarterly sales results, selling 2,617 electric vans, up 90%.

Quarterly EV sales also told a positive story, swelling 15% to 20,962 vehicles. Strong Mustang Mach-E sales made up much of the gain, up 42.5%— the best since its debut in 2021.

The automaker's quarterly truck sales increased by 15.3% year-over-year, with 275,554 vehicles sold. Ford also saw big gains from all-new Super Duty pickups, up 17.6%, Maverick, up 83.4%, and Transit, up 28.3%.

The numbers made Ford the No. 1 selling truck manufacturer again for the quarter and year-to-date. It's sold 825,179 pickups and vans through September, surpassing General Motors' sales by about 64,000 vehicles.

“We saw strong balanced sales growth providing choice to our customers in the third quarter, with growth coming from our gas engine, electric, hybrid and commercial van lineup,” said Andrew Frick, vice president, sales, distribution and trucks, in the press release.  “Ford’s truck lineup remains the industry’s top seller. The Maverick and Bronco Sport remain red hot after Ford boosted manufacturing capacity earlier this year. The all-new seventh generation Mustang is off to a jackrabbit start in its first full month, up 90% in September over last year.”

Hybrid sales also hit a positive note, according to the earnings report. Driven by F-150 and Maverick hybrid trucks, they increased 41.4% in the quarter, with 34,861 vehicles sold. F-150 hybrid sales increased by 47% with 12,311 trucks sold, making it America's top-selling hybrid truck. The Maverick Hybrid accounts for 56.5% of all Maverick trucks sold. Quarterly Maverick sales surged by 83.4%, totaling 23,931, the automaker noted.

Ford also reported commercial vans continued to perform well in the quarter. The sales of transit vans increased 28% to 34,006 vans. Transit remained America's top-selling commercial van for the quarter and year-to-date at 98,052 units—up 43.5% year-over-year, according to Ford.

The automaker reported E-Series vans rose 13.4% in the quarter and that they're up 37% so far this year, and U.S. commercial truck and van share increased to 40.5%, up 2% year-over-year.

Corsair, Nautilus and Navigator boosted Lincoln's quarter-end performance, according to the quarterly report. Sales of the Navigator increased by 46% with 4,527 SUVs sold. The new Lincoln Corsair boosted sales by 26%, and Nautilus saw a 32.4% increase year-over-year.
