U.S. Honda dealers could service electric vehicles developed in a joint venture between the carmaker and Sony but apparently won’t sell the models, Automotive News reported.

Honda Chief Financial Officer Kohei Takeuchi said the venture's EV sales and service plan is still being worked out, though he noted that the carmaker’s hundreds of dealerships are prepared to service the models, the publication said.

The partnership, called Sony Honda Mobility, has indicated it plans to start production and sales of the first of the EVs in 2026. They will be built among several plants in Ohio.

Takeuchi said the sales model for the EVs will be “unconventional,” perhaps alluding to an online approach.

Its dealers have communicated that they want to be a part of the venture.

The Japanese carmaker has said it aims for battery-electric and fuel-cell electric vehicles represent all of its vehicle sales in North America by 2040.
