The Cadillac Lyriq is being investigated for problems with its brake-assist feature that can lead to loss of ABS functioning, along with limit to speed.

The 2023 model of the fully electric luxury sports-utility vehicle is effected by the issue, which the National Highway Transportation Safety Board is examining after getting reports of a hard brake followed by a “brake system failure” message when the vehicle is started or while it’s being driven.

General Motors told NHTSA that an internal spindle in the Lyriq’s brake-control module, eBoost, can break when the system is engaged, causing it to fail. It reported that it’s prepared an over-the-air update to inform drivers if the failure occurs and will repair the system under warranty. No recall has been enacted.

The NHTSA opened its investigation to determine the scope of the problem and related safety issues.
