Ford is recalling more than 450,000 vehicles over a battery issue that could lead to loss of power while driving.

The recall affects 2021 to 2024 Bronco Sports and 2022 to 2023 Mavericks.

A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Board’s website says the issue is caused by failure of the body and power train control modules to detect a battery charge change. In addition to the obviously dangerous loss of power, the issue can result in loss of other electrical lapses, such as for hazard lights.

Dealers will recalibrate the body- and power train-control modules free of charge. Ford is scheduled to mail owners recall notices on May 13.
